OUR VISION
To foster a spirit of scientific inquiry around Mangrove ecosystems for middle and high School students across countries which harbour mangrove ecosystems.
To achieve this we have a structured STEM Inquiry module led by scientists at Pikiji Learning Australia and Arts Facilitators at The Pomegranate Workshop, Mumbai to lead students through a complete scientific inquiry and also have them present their work and findings through multiple media including photographs, film, blogs, podcasts etc.
Real change, we believe is when students arrive at their own findings through scientific inquiry, posing their own questions and investigating these questions through structured experiment.
Featured on this platform are student findings in a variety of exciting formats

Goals and Objectives
Stoke student curiosity about mangroves
Mangroves may be visible all the time to students who live in their proximity, yet these forests in the salt marshes may seldom be looked upon by young learners as thriving and critical ecosystems comprising scores of creatures. The Mangrove Life aims to first make mangroves an exciting field of study for young learners, thereby making it a learning for life.
Bring Indigenous knowledge holders to the forefront of Inquiry
Communities that have traditionally lived by the mangroves and continue to earn their livelihoods through the mangrove ecosystems are treasure troves of knowledge on the ecosystem and also bring to the students a lived experience of navigating the ecosystem every day. The Mangrove Life aims to bring Indigenous knowledge holders to the forefront of the inquiry and provide students with the spectrum of authentic inquiry.
Global classroom exchanges
The Mangrove Life believes in creating strong trans country dialogue between students in countries which foster mangroves. The science inquiry findings are shared by classrooms across the globe creating a global classroom exchange of mangrove inquiry.
Involving multiple stakeholders in STEM Inquiry for Mangroves
Schools, colleges, NGOs, corporates, government, various organizations involved in education are just some of the stakeholders we see keenly adding value to The Mangrove Life through planned collaborations.
Who we are
Pikiji Learning is a First Nations Australian Community driven business, dedicated to meaningful change in education. Pikiji Learning units are created by teachers for teachers with learning grounded in locally contextualized First Nations (Indigenous) Living Knowledges. We utilize living knowledges as scientific knowledges that have been known for millennia and embed it into the current science curriculum through hands-on inquiry-based learning.
